Which country has the largest diaspora in the world?

As of 2016, India is the country with the largest diaspora in the whole world. Diaspora means people from a certain country leaving en masse to live in other countries. At the moment, the Indian diaspora amounts to 15.5 million people born in India now living in other nations. Indians can be found all over the world, from the United States to Japan!

The Indian diaspora has dramatically increased over the last decade. In 2005, the Indian diaspora was calculated to be just over 9 million. This was still a very large number of people, but it was not so large as it is today and in 2005, India was ranked as having the third largest diaspora in the world. Since 2015, the size of the Indian diaspora has increased by more than 60%.

The US, Germany and the UAE are particularly popular countries for immigrants of all nations – including India – to migrate to.
