Tallapaka Annamacharya (Hindu saint, poet and musician)

Tallapaka Annamacharya was Born in 1408.

Tallapaka Annamacharya was the famous Hindu Saint, poet and profound musician who composed about 32,000 devotional songs (kirtanas) addressed to Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati.

His Kirtanas which were engraved on copper plates and deposited in the temple of Venkateswara were unfortunately melted by ignorant trustees of the temple. Only 8,000 Kirtanas are now available. The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams are now busy in making these Kirtanas popular through their project known as the Annamacharya Project. From the last five to seven years his Kirtanas are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the splendid work of Tirupati-Tirumala Devasthanams.

Tallapaka Annamacharya who hailed from Tallapaka village in the Cuddapah district lived for 95 years.

Except for Annamacharya Kirtanas and Srinath’s Palnati Veera Charitra the works up to the end of the 15th century were mere translations from Sanskrit. There were no original poetry works or works in prose.

He died in the year of 1503.
