Introduction and meaning: Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday is an important and very old Christian festival. This festive event celebrated mainly by Christians in the honour of Resurrection of Jesus Christ from dead.

It is believed that the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead took place three days after his crucifixion.

Why is Easter celebrated? Christian believes that Lord Jesus Christ will come back to life or resurrect from the dead. That’s why; people celebrate Easter by visiting the church and praying to God.

Significance: Easter Sunday is that this day signifies the win of Good over Bad. Lord Jesus is the “son of God” and the resurrection of Jesus signifies that follower of virtuous or righteous path will always be loved and protected by God.

Great 40 days: People belonging to Christian faith celebrate this day with fervor and joy. Their love and passion towards Jesus Christ is so intense that many of them undergo fasting for forty (40) days. This is known as “Great Fast” or “Great Lent” or “Great 40 days”.

The “Great 40 day” fasting ends on day of Easter Sunday.

Celebration: Before Easter Sunday, the preceding week is known as Holy Week that celebrates Holy Thursday as well as the Good Friday.

Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper whereas the Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

This day is declared a holiday in many parts of the world. However, in most places essential businesses and organizations are allowed to do their work on this day.
