Brief information on Kishtwar National Park in Jammu and Kashmir

Kishtwar National Park, situated in Kishtawar district, the park covers an area of 310 sq. km. It was set up in 1981. The nearest town is Kishtwar at a distance of 60 km. The railway station and airport for the park are at Jammu which is 245 km away from the park.

This park is located in the western Himalayas and its average height from the mean sea level is 4400 meters. It has a temperate climate and its forests consist of dry temperate and broad leaved species and conifers.

The fauna of the park comprise leopard, Kashmir stag, langur, leopard cat, black bear, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, etc. The birds commonly found are golden oriole, fly catcher, golden eagle.

May to October is the best period for visiting the park. There are rest houses for the tourists in the park.
