Who was Amoghavarsha?

Amoghavarsha was probably the best remembered of the Rashtrakuta kings. His long reign (814- 80) was not so eventful and militarily rather insignificant. But his reign was distinguished for royal patronage of the Jain religion.

The Arab Merchant, Suleiman, pays him complements and says that he was one of the four greatest rulers of the world, the other being the Caliph of Bagdad, the Emperors of China, and Constantinople. Amoghavarsha was famous as maker of the city, Manyakheta.
