Short Paragraph on Jawaharlal Nehru

Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was an Indian patriot and political leader. He was the first Prime Minister of independent and free India.

Birth: He was born in Nehru family on 14 day of November in 1889 at Allahabad. He came of an aristocratic family. He received his early education through governesses and private tutors at home. His father, Motilal Nehru, was also a patriot and leader of Indian freedom movement.

Education: When the family of Jawaharlal Nehru went on a tour to Europe, he was admitted to the Harrow Public School in England. He received education at Harrow and Cambridge. He returned to India and joined the bar at the Allahabad High Court.

Career: Though Jawaharlal Nehru joined the bar, he was naturally inclined towards politics. He soon became a prominent figure in India. He was so much loved and respected by the people that he was elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1929.

Nehru was the central figure of Indian politics and Indian National Congress, when India was struggling for independence against the British under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.

His entire life was the history of India’s fight for independence. He served the Congress for many years as its General Secretary. He was the first Prime Minister of the Indian Union. He adorned this post till the last moment of his life.

Nature: Jawaharlal Nehru was sincere, honest and dignified. His sufferings and sacrifices have no parallel in history. The change from princely luxuries to the doom of a protracted jail life was a big change. He had wonderful energy and ability. He was a great scholar and wrote a number of good books. His most famous book is “Discovery of India”.

Children’s Day: He had deep love and affection for children. He is lovingly known as “Chacha Nehru”. Children’s Day is annually celebrated in India on 14th November (birth date of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru).

Conclusion: It was Jawaharlal Nehru who held aloft India’s banner of independence and led India to glory. He passed away on May 27, 1964.
