Short note on Gonds Tribes

The Gonds are a Dravidian-speaking Adivasi group, who are scattered in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Talangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.

With a population of over one crore people, they are among the largest tribal communities in India. They are notified as Scheduled tribes in many Indian states.

They are good in the field of art. They make beautiful paintings on the floor and walls of their homes. Even during ancient times, they had the knowledge of astronomy.

Their language, Gondi, has no literary life, and the Gondi-speaking people are no longer a compact bloc. Everywhere, with their advance in life, they acquire the languages of the neighboring people, like Hindi and Marathi, and in some cases Oriya. They speak many aryan languages and also Telugu, which is a cultured Dravidian language.
