Composition of Indian Parliament

The constituent parts of the Indian Parliament are composed of :

1. The Presidents

Our President is an integral part of the Parliament.

He summons, prorogues the Parliament and can dissolve the Lok Sabha (Lower House).

A bill can become an Act only after the the assent of the President is received.

2. The Lok Sabha

The lower house of the Parliament is known as Lok Sabha. It is the direct choice of the people.

Money bill and most of the public bills originate in the Lok Sabha.

3. The Rajya Sabha.

The Rajya Sabha of the India Parliament is the upper House. It is partly elected and partly nominated.

It can delay a public bill and a money bill for six months and 14 days respectively. It has also the power to create more All-India services.
