Kandukuri Veeresalingam is remembered now for the pioneering work he did in the field of social reform, especially remarriage of widows.
Before he turned his attention to social reform he widened the frontiers of Telugu letters by introducing new literary forms like the novel, autobiography etc.
The literary activities of Kandukuri Veeresalingam were varied. He wrote the first novel in Telugu Rajasekhara Charitamu. The first books in Telugu on natural sciences and history were written by him. He was the first to establish separate journals for women, Satihitabodhini and Hasyavardini.
Kandukuri Veeresalingam was also the first to bring out in Telugu works on literary criticism and history of Telugu poets. His works covered almost the entire range of Telugu literature.
