Whoever says or believes that life changes after you get married, has probably not experienced the beauty of the bond yet. Because I took my first solo trip to Tirthan after getting married, and believe me it turned out to be one kick-ass adventure! I have had an eternal love for traveling ever since, and it has only gotten stronger now, and I cannot thank my husband enough for that.

Since both of us love going places, we were planning a trip again as we came nearer to another long weekend in December, but due to some last minute work requirements, he had to cancel. My first ever solo trip to Tirthan began with an overnight ride along with 35 other people and soon began a joyful journey as we all interacted with each other via an ice breaking session. I believe a journey to any destination is equally significant as the experience of the whole holiday, and I was super glad that mine had all levels of thrill in it.

We reached Tirthan by 11 in the morning and the chilly weather added on to the excitement I had for the whole trip. After freshening up and relaxing for a while, we were back on our toes and ready to trek till the waterfall. The three kilometer trek was just the beginning of the adventure Tirthan had in store for us. I have trekked a lot of times before, but the rocky terrains and weather there made it an experience I had never had before.

While there wasn’t a lot of waterfall to witness, the view itself was very soul-satisfying. After spending some time there, we came back to Trishla, the riverside resort which was my home for the whole weekend, and relaxed for a while. The evening got more lit as the music was put on and the bonfire was set in place, and soon after we were all high on old classics, and telling spooky stories to each other. It was no longer a solo trip, literally, because I had made some really amazing friends already.

I strongly believe in exploring the place or gaining experiences apart from those mentioned in the itinerary. So, while everyone was tired and got up by 10 in the morning, I started my day way early around 7 and headed out to the nearby places. Of all the things to do on a solo trip to Tirthan, I feel this one’s a must! From witnessing the lake for trout fishing to crossing the river using a pulley, I did everything that the locals do. Even after that I went on interacting with the people who owned homestays and learning about their lifestyle made my solo journey an enriching affair.

After one hour of exploration, I came back to the resort and had a hearty breakfast post which we left for the Jalori Pass trek. One hour of ride in a traveller and two hours of trekking led us to the winter wonderland near the Jalori Pass – the Serolsar Lake. And just like my many firsts, witnessing the gorgeous white flakes and sliding onto the snow was my first ever experience too. With bare hands, I picked up snow, made balls of it, and rolled them onto others with the same level of excitement that a kid does.

The little tapri near the lake that sold chai and snacks made it look like a picture straight out of a story book, and I couldn’t help but capture it all. And while the trek was quite risky and tiring as the route had become slippery due to the snowfall, the gorgeous lake wrapped beautifully with snow all around made it a wow-worthy experience.

We returned to our resort late in the evening and it was then it dawned on us how fun yet hectic a day we had all had. Unlike the first day, we all quietly enjoyed our meals over the bonfire and soothing music before going to the bed.

This was the last day of my Tirthan adventure, and I wanted to make the most of it. So, when a few travelers decided to stay back and relax in the resort, I got ready and went out for a sightseeing tour with others. We visited the Budhi Nagin Temple and Chaini Fort. A good one hour over there included not just exploring the two attractions, but also playing cricket and UNO together.

Later, we had lunch at a local Dhaba and soon after we left for our journey back to Delhi.

Filled with so ‘many firsts’, my Tirthan trip with TravelTriangle was a much needed refreshing break, and I didn’t want it to end.

• While there weren’t any major low points during the trip, the one thing that was a bit of a concern was the delay in the itinerary due to the weather conditions and so many people. But, the way the coordinators from TravelTriangle managed it was commendable.

Tips For Future Travelers

• Do check the weather once and pack your clothes accordingly.
• Carry or wear a pair of sturdy shoes that will help you trek properly.
• Do take a torch and a walking stick along every time you go for trekking.
• If you have no trekking experiences from the past, avoid going for a trek to the Jalori Pass and then further to the Serolsar Lake, as it’s not recommended for first timers in such a weather condition.
• Heat up the water before heading out itself so that when you come back to your resort in the evening, you can quickly take a warm relaxing shower.
• Try and interact with the locals as it will help you in gaining a better glimpse of the place.
• Don’t forget to take a good camera and a charged power bank along.

There is no doubt that the overall experience of my solo trip to Tirthan Valley with TravelTriangle was very adventuresome. Everything was way above than what I expected it to be, and considering the weather conditions, the tour coordinators managed everything pretty well and were available 24X7. The whole itinerary was followed and complete privacy & safety were offered. Coming back home with a sore throat made everyone believe that I really had the time of my life!
