Take Tips From Kavipriya On Things To Do In Sri Lanka With Family In 2019

My parents are 60 above and they had to leave for America soon. So I wanted to take them to someplace that is within reach and where I could go along with them. It also needed to be a place that could be covered in 4-5 days. They are Tamil-speaking people so taking them to Sri Lanka seemed like a good plan. My brother has arranged the trip. The trip was taken to make them comfortable with journeys across borders. We chose Sri Lanka also because this was where my great-great-grandfather was born. And Kandy was the place where my family had lost everything and they came back to India. I experienced some of the best things to do in Sri Lanka with family that I would like to share with you.

The Temple Of The Sacred Tooth Relic is officially known as Sri Dalada Maligawa temple. The grand palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy houses this Buddhist temple. This is one of the most popular temples in Sri Lanka. The temple gets its name from the tooth relic of Buddha that is placed inside it. We enjoyed exploring the temple and admiring its beauty. The detailed white walls and the simple roofing along with the greenery surrounding it makes it one of the most peaceful places to visit in Sri Lanka.

We also visited the Gem Museum after this. Sri Lanka is the producer of some of the finest quality of gems in the world. And it was interesting to know and see the variety of gems it brings to market. The highlight was the semi-precious gems known as the sapphires of Sri Lanka that come in a many different shaded like of blue, green, red, white.

We were very excited for the Nuwara Eliya city tour. The whole town has a British vibe with its colonial architecture. Infact, it is also known as ‘Little England’. This is a highland region that is surrounded by mountains and tea hills. We visited a Tea Factory that is still working and saw how the world’s finest Orange Pekoe tea is produced. We also visited the Seetha Eliya temple, which has a reference in the Hindu holy book of Ramayana. Another place you must visit is the Hakgala Botanical Gardens that is spread across a vast area and has hilly terrain, meadows and waterfall in its boundary. The garden has a variety of lotus and water lily floats that looks absolutely charming.

Bentota City is known for its pristine golden beaches in Sri Lanka. We enjoyed a boat ride through the popular Madhu River. It was a great journey and we passed by several small islands with mangrove forests. We loved the time spent on the beach relaxing and enjoying the views. Our next stop was the Turtle Hatchery which has been recognised by the Wildlife Protection Society in 1981, as the nesting site for turtles. It is amazing to watch new-born turtle hatchlings and their journey to the sea.
