As we landed, we were greeted by our driver who assisted us to our hotel in Ubud. After a short nap at the hotel, we decided to head out to one of the most mesmerizing temples of Bali, Uluwatu Temple. Something you definitely shouldn’t miss here is the Kecak Dance which is a Hindu Balinese performance using fire. The expressions of the artist portraying Ram, Sita, Ravan, and Hanuman will simply leave you dazed.

2. Dolphin greetings!

Honestly, of all the things to do in Bali, dolphin watching is something everyone would enjoy regardless of their age! And so after a heart breakfast, we decided to visit Lovina Beach which is home to some majestic dolphins that will leave you stunned with their tricks. We got in a boat and our guide gave us a few instructions before the dolphins came out. And when they did, we were left in awe. This is something you definitely shouldn’t miss when in Bali.

3. A gem in the woods!

After an exciting time at Lovina beach, our next stop was among the lush green forests. As we made our way to the enchanting Gitgit waterfall we couldn’t help but admire the beautiful sights that surrounded us. The water in itself is simply breathtaking and beautiful. We spent some time here and captured some great pictures. Cliff jumping is something you can indulge in at the waterfall as well, however we planned to skip that.

4. A relaxing day at Gili Meno

After spending the first three days of our trip in Ubud and exploring the many attractions in the city. It was time for a leisurely escape from the bustling crowds. Crystal clear waters, cool blue skies and golden beaches awaited us at the paradise that is Gili Meno. The island is really one of the smallest in Gili and not as crowded, perfect for us since we wanted to spend some peaceful time together. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a romantic getaway.

5. A mystical experience at Tanah Lot Temple

We had done our research before making it to Bali, and this serene temple was at the top of our list. So, the day before we head back home we decided to collect out blessings here. The place is simply beyond words and there are three temples that you can visit at Tanah Lot. I would recommend spending one entire day here because it is simply a wonderful experience. The picturesque backdrop and captivating architecture fascinated us the most. Visiting the temple was the perfect way to bid goodbye to Bali.

1. Nusa Penida: A Few Hours In Paradise

As we landed in Bali, we were received by our driver and transferred to our hotel. We spent the evening relaxing and later had for a delicious Indian dinner. The next day we woke up early in the morning, full of excitement for a Bali island tour. After all, we were on our way to Nusa Penida, a paradise in its true sense. Our driver was waiting at the hotel to drive us to the Sanur Harbour where we were to catch our boat to the island.

As we arrived on the island, we were greeted by another driver who assisted us during our tour of the island. Taking in the sights of Angel Billabong, and Kelkimg cliff, we couldn’t have been more star struck. We also visited the broken beach which is a great place to enjoy the sunset. While a lot of people miss out on this island on their trip to Bali, I would recommend to totally add this to your itinerary. After a day all spent, we called it a night and head back to our hotel.

2. Bedugul Temple Tour: A Day Spent In Serenity

The next morning, we woke up to another action packed day. This day was all about getting a glimpse of the local culture of the city. We visited the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple as well as the famous Tanah Lot Temple during the tour. It was a wonderful experience and we would definitely recommend stopping by the Bedugul Temple Lake for a while. After a tour of the temples, it was evening so we headed back to our hotel for some rest.

3. Kintamani Volcano: A Splendid Sight

During our Bali trip from Kolkata, we also visited the famous active volcano, Mount Batur. We reveled in the beauty of the Crater Lake and took some wonderful pictures here. This definitely one of the best places to visit in Bali and something you should definitely have on your itinerary. Later in the evening, we head to Ubud village for souvenir shopping and street food.

4. Goa Gajah: Into The Elephant Caves

After a trip to Ubud village, it was time to head to Goa Gajah which is set in the village of Bedulu. On our way there we also stopped at Tegenungan waterfalls to spend some time by the water. After a refreshing break, we hit the road again. Upon arrival, we were mesmerized by the beauty of the place. To get into the temple you will need a Sarong which you can hire or carry with yourself.

5. Kendera: The Pool Villa Experience

Our Bali budget trip from India would have been incomplete without enjoying the experience of a private pool villa. We went for Vrindavan Ubud Villa which is located in Kendera. We were warmly welcomed with a delicious welcome drink and directed to our villa. Surrounded by rice fields, the ambiance for amazing and we had a wonderful time. We also visited the Kuta beach during the day we spent there. It was a great way to end out already fabulous trip to Bali.

3. Stay At Marriott Hotel In Ubud

Set high up in the hills far away from the commercialized part of town, we found the utterly hospitable Sthala Hotel by Marriott is the best place to stay in Ubud. The enormous property is surrounded by lush greenery and is an attraction in itself. The hotel has awesome rooms with views of green paddy fields, forests, and a sparkling river. The hotel staff was super friendly and attentive to our needs.

Since the location of the hotel was far from the city center, they had an hourly shuttle service for guests that was totally reliable. They also had many activities like traditional Balinese dance performances and several walking tours, but we couldn’t avail any due to our packed itinerary. All in all, we couldn’t have picked a better and more beautiful option for our stay in Ubud!

4. Pay A Visit To The Majestic Tanah Lot Temple

Many travelers think it is just another tourist attraction in Bali. It’s much more! For once, you’ll be bewitched by the sheer beauty of this place the moment you set your eyes on it. The temple in itself surely is beautiful, but it’s actually the location that makes it so attractive! Where else would you find a temple located right on the beach with high waves constantly crashing over it, creating a picture-perfect vision like no other!

The surroundings have been kept extremely clean and hygienic, which is another reason we loved this place. Though tourists weren’t allowed to enter the temple premises, simply basking in the gorgeous views of this unique sanctum with the melodious sounds of the waves and the surreal backdrop of the setting sun was enough to melt our hearts!

Other than this, there are various night clubs, beach clubs, rooftop bars, pubs, and live music venues in areas like Kuta, Seminyak that you can explore.

If you’re not looking for anything wild, you can simply watch a cultural show or two. Watch a Cabaret Show or get to the Balinese Theatre for a stunning cultural performance with a blend of drama, art, costumes, dance, lights, and music. You can also watch traditional dance performances and live fire shows in (or outside) the many temples. Or just simply head down to a lively Night Market in Sanur, Kereneng, Gianyar, or Badung.

Ideally, you need at least 7-8 days in Bali if you wish to see all its prime attractions and locations properly. But if you truly wish to experience Bali, and not just see it, you need to spend at least 3 nights in Gili Islands and 1 in Nusa Penida, which is going to bring the number of days to 10-11. If you choose to skip these two places you can easily manage to see Bali in just 8 days.

What should I buy in Bali?

Bali is a paradise for shopaholics looking for cheap clothes and craft items. The night markets of Sanur, Kereneng, Gianyar, or Badung are literally brimming with things like fine art handicrafts, antique and semi-antique furniture, paintings, delicately carved jewelry, wooden items, stone carvings, masks, woven and dyed fabrics and bags, and much more. You can also buy handicrafts at the Kumbasari Art Market in Denpasar.

You can grab beautiful bags and home decor items made from nature-inspired motifs such as batiks and tropical plants at the many designer stalls and homeware boutique stores. You can also buy cheap silverware and jewelry from local artisans in the many street markets of Kuta and Seminyak. Shoppers can also get a hold of many unique and creative handicrafts at the Tegallalang ‘Handicrafts Village’, like life-size wood carvings of animals, masks, paintings, traditional dance costumes, wall hangings, and more.

There are also various shopping malls and night markets where you can buy designer clothes and cheap apparels respectively. We did not buy anything more than mementos and souvenirs owing to the shortage of time, but we would have loved to explore these markets.

What should one pack for Bali?

Pack comfortable, light-colored cotton clothes for Bali as the weather remains quite hot and humid. Keep a pair or two of cotton or linen shorts as well as light flip flops as you’ll have to tread in the water a lot. There is no jetty at the Gili Island beaches and the Sanur beach, so you’ll be asked to get down in the water itself once your boat reaches there. For such conditions, sports shoes are not recommended since they’ll take a long time to dry off later.

Carry a small umbrella at all times, especially if you’re visiting in the monsoon season. Apply sunscreen generously before stepping out, wear a scarf to protect yourself against the sun, and carry sufficient medications for food poisoning and fungal infections. Don’t forget to carry mosquito repellents. Also, wear full-length lowers on days when you’re supposed to visit a temple as per your itinerary since one is not allowed to enter a Balinese temple with exposed knees.
