Ours Was The Perfect Romantic Trip To Meghalaya For Nature Lovers

After spending 5 days in the North East, Kaushik describes his account of an unforgettable romantic trip to Meghalaya that unearths a magical destination in all its beauty and aplomb tucked away in the heart of the North-Eastern Himalayas.

After three consecutive months of tireless work, thoughts of a vacation inevitably popped up in our heads. My wife and I didn’t want to go anywhere in South India, but most likely somewhere international like Sri Lanka, Maldives or a country in South-East Asia.

However, after considering the weather and the season, a romantic trip to Meghalaya sounded like the best option. It wasn’t really the international trip we had started planning, but a place like that deserved a lot of intrigue and attention.

Experiencing The Sweet Delights Of North East India: A Beautiful Family Trip To Sikkim & Darjeeling

Details of our romantic trip to Meghalaya

Trip Cost: INR 32,000

Trip Duration: 4 nights 5 days

Agent Name: Chalo Hoppo

Inclusions: Transfers, accommodation, meals (excluding dinner), sightseeing, and taxes

Exclusions: Flights, lunch, entry fees, and additional expenses (if any)

While searching for North East tour packages, we had a lot of questions in our mind like how will the food options look like for us pure vegetarians and how much would the rain play a part in disturbing our itinerary (since we planned to go to the wettest place on Earth- Cherrapunjee).

After we contacted TravelTriangle, a representative from their end handled all of our queries tactfully. At the end of it all, we had booked a romantic trip to Meghalaya with an itinerary that matched our needs 100% and met the price range we had in mind.

Day 1: Landing into the green pastures of Meghalaya

On the first morning, we took a direct flight from Chennai to Guwahati. Just as we were about to land, green fields appeared out of nowhere just like a chess-board raising our excitement to another level. We were welcomed at the airport by Hasan, our driver, who came along with his Swift Dzire.

We began our journey by traveling towards Shillong. We stopped on our way for breakfast at the Jiva Veg Restaurant at Nongpoh. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu which had all kinds of Dosas and Parathas. The drive from Nongpoh to Shillong was scenic as we saw clouds sailing along the same winding roads we were traveling on. On our way, we also stopped by at the beautiful Umiam Lake where the water had rare a green tinge that I have rarely seen in a lake before.

waterfalls in meghalaya

A few hours later, we checked into the Sha-Ri Loum Guest House in Shillong. We liked the homestay since it was clean, had a pleasant view, and offered privacy that many hotels don’t.

Later that afternoon, we did some sightseeing by visiting the Don Bosco Museum. My wife, who generally does not like museums, spent her time going around the seven floors with quite a bit of interest. There was also a floor dedicated to the religions of the world which was really interesting for me.

We ended the day with a visit to the bustling local markets of Shillong. We also tried some common Indian street food which was delicious. Back at the homestay, we were served a tasty dinner that included dal, rice, and some pakodas.

Day 2: 3500-steps to reach Nongriat

The next morning, we got up early, checked out from the homestay and left for Nongriat. To reach this village in Meghalaya was an adventure in itself. There was no other way to go there except trekking down a 3500-step staircase. When we booked the place, it felt like a once in a lifetime experience that we wanted on our romantic trip to Meghalaya. But when we began our trip, we felt terrified of the possible outcomes.

At last, we decided that after having traveled this far, we had to take the plunge. We packed very lightly having just one set to change, some toiletries and a medical kit. We started our walk from the Tyrna village, which was the base for reaching Nongriat Village. As we huffed and puffed our way down the never-ending flight of stairs, we tried filling our lungs with the fresh air, lush green surroundings, and the spirit of adventure.

On our way, we then came across a small, yet beautiful village in the middle of the forest. Amidst the tall and tropical trees, we had a feeling that we were in the heaven, just that we weren’t ready for it.

After a while, we reached a beautiful long root bridge, which is considered as the halfway point to Nongriat. The water flowing down the long root bridge was crystal clear and felt like pure mineral water. After another gruesome hour of trekking, we finally reached the Nongriat village at 4 pm.

We checked into our homestay and proceeded to the double-decker bridge to have a bath in the wonderful falls and pool. We virtually had the whole pool and falls to ourselves as most tourists who come down to Nongriat don’t stay here.

That evening we met a Bengali guy and his friend who had come down that evening to stay in the bungalow. We shared stories of our travels and had dinner together.

Day 3: The long climb back to Sai Mika Resort in Cherrapunjee

The next morning we checked out of Nongriat and began our climb back to Cherrapunjee. Oddly enough, we took half the time climbing up as compared to when we were on our way to Nongriat. It was probably because we had gotten used to the thousands of stairs.

Upon reaching Tyrna village, we had locally grown pineapple and said goodbye to our guide Kit-Bot. We arrived in Cherrapunjee and checked into the Sai Mika Resort which is a 5 km drive into near nothingness.

Best Things To Do On A Family Trip To Sikkim And Darjeeling

After that, we then headed to a waterfall near the resort where we were treated to a sight that I have not seen ever. The river had created infinite small craters and gorges which are a sight by themselves which was scary yet beautiful.

While my wife took a break and rested at the resort, I kept myself busy with photography. At Sai Mika Resort, the weather and the clouds passed through every 2 minutes. At one point we were in the sunshine you left and the next minute there is a wave of clouds passing by like army drill out of nowhere. The clouds would come, hit the high ground, consolidate, and then move towards me like a wave of white smoke on the disco floor.

Later on, we had dinner and took rest before deciding to call it a day for our romantic trip to Meghalaya.

Day 4: A scenic and adventurous drive to Markasa

Like our daily routine goes, we checked out of the resort and then headed out after breakfast towards Markasa Village. It was a distant place, as we started at 9 am to reach only by 12.30 pm.

The stretch from Shillong to Markasa was awesome. This day we witnessed all types of skies that I had never seen before, scenery that keeps clearing and fogging every couple of minutes and that urge to see the very next scene.

An Epic Adventure Trip To Meghalaya With Friends

Yet another surprise on our romantic trip to Meghalaya came when we stopped at a dhaba for lunch and a tasty pumpkin dish was available along with rice. The food was really good as I gobbled up most of it.

Finally, as the dust settled on another fantastic day of travel and exploration, we proceeded to our village homestay, that was 5 kms from Markasa, to call it a night.

Day 5: Heading back to civilization

On the final morning of our romantic trip to Meghalaya, we left the village touched by the integrity, simple living, carefree life of the people in Meghalaya. We also said our goodbyes to the dog that accompanied us to all the viewpoints around the village just because my wife had given him some leftover food.

The overnight rains had made the muddy road even more slippery, but our expert jeep driver made sure that we came back to Markasaw in time for our flight. We were back in Nongpoh for our lunch before we headed back to the airport in Guwahati.

As we boarding our flight back to Chennai, the realization of going back to the world that we live in was pretty hard-hitting. Meghalaya was the kind of heaven that we always dream of living in.

At the tail-end of this romantic trip to Meghalaya, my wife couldn’t help but convey her feelings as she was left wondering why wasn’t she born here? or could she not have a mother here? In the end, we were grateful to the almighty tried who set up an idyllic surrounding for a painter and left him admiring God’s work on this beautiful stretch of land.

Discovering Unseen Places On A Family Trip To Meghalaya

High points:

  • Chetan from Chalo Hoppo made our itinerary after understanding who were and our love for nature, trekking, etc. Hats off to him for planning such a wonderful romantic trip to Meghalaya.
  • Although I’m not too keen in stargazing, to experience that in Nongriat left me speechless.

Tip To Travelers:

  • The double-decker root bridge in Nongriat is a one-of-a-kind in the world. You need legs of steel and the determination of a tiger to visit it and experience it.

While searching for Sri Lanka tour packages, I got to know about TravelTriangle via Google. Their website had good reviews and a vast variety of holidays packages from which we could choose from. I trusted the expertise of TravelTriangle completely to design a perfect 3 nights 4 days romantic vacation in Sri Lanka.

Now came the moment of revealing the surprise to my husband. At first a bit confused, he became absolutely ecstatic after realizing that I had planned for us a romantic vacation to Sri Lanka. Now that the surprise element was gone, the excitement started to rise as we packed our bags for a thrilling international vacation.

Day 1: The vibrant culture and spiritual vibe in Kandy were memorable

Our trip began with a 4 am flight from Bengaluru to Colombo. Upon our arrival in Sri Lanka, the driver received us at the airport and drove us to Kandy. On the way, we made a quick stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary. Over there, we had a chance to see up-close all the elephants that were rescued from the jungle and raised by the staff working at this sanctuary.

Later in the afternoon, we arrived in Kandy and were shown around all the major sightseeing place in our car by the driver. On this day of our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka, we visited places in Kandy like Tooth Relic Temple, Batik Factory, Upper Lake District and Kandyan Arts and Culture Centre.

Theirs Was An Ideal Honeymoon Trip To Sri Lanka & They Couldn’t Have Planned It Better!

In the evening, once the sightseeing tour was over, we checked into the Kandy City Hotel to end the first day of our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka that was full of traveling and new places to see. After an early start to the day, both of us could definitely do with a full night’s sleep.

Day 2: Royal treatment in picturesque Nuwara Eliya

The next morning, we checked out from the Kandy City Hotel and began our journey to Nuwara Eliya. On the way to Nuwara Eliya, we stopped at a number of places. First of them being the Ramboda Falls, followed by a tea factory and plantation. We reached Nuwara Eliya at 4 pm and the first view we got of the hill station was absolutely mesmerizing.

Best Things To Do On A 4D/3N Family Trip To Sri Lanka!

We arrived at a time when the fog was hanging on the mountain tops, our surroundings were lush-green, and the temperature was mildly cool.

What made things even better for our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka was the location of the hotel and our room in specific. Heaven Seven Hotel was located on a hill slope and we got the topmost room of the hotel which was very close to the hill-top. To top that, we received a complimentary cake and bottle of wine as a welcome gift by the hotel. What more could have I asked for our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka.

Day 3: Luxury beach town feels in Kalutara

The next day, we had breakfast and checked out of Nuwara Eliya to head towards the popular beach town of Kalutara. Although we would have liked to stay in Nuwara Eliya for a few more days, the prospect of ending our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka by spending a day spoiling ourselves with all the five-star luxuries in Kalutara was also a great idea.

We reached our beach resort in Kalutara at 2 pm and after that, we spent the entire day unwinding and relaxing in the pool, gym, and spa. The evening ended with a delicious meal at the restaurant in the resort, following which we returned to our room for the night.

Day 4: Colombo sightseeing and a flight back home

On the final day of our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka, we checked out of Kalutara and drove back to Colombo. Since our flight wasn’t scheduled to fly until later at night, we made most of our time by going on a sightseeing tour of Colombo.

We visited a number of popular tourists places like Gangaramaya temple, Clocktower, Independence Square, Galle Face, and the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara temple. Post lunch, we did some souvenir shopping for our family back home on the wonderfully decorated street markets in Colombo. The driver dropped us at the airport at night for our flight back to Bengaluru.

Beautiful Places To Visit On A 6 Day Trip To Sri Lanka

Although our vacation was about to end, both of us got a very beautiful glimpse of the diverse island nation of Sri Lanka. I don’t think I’ve ever been on a four-day trip that had romance, sightseeing, adventure, relaxation, spirituality, and luxuries all stuffed into one.

A romantic vacation in Sri Lanka was the perfect way to commemorate a year’s completion of our married life which so far has been a caring, loving, and blissful experience with my partner. Not only did this trip strengthen the bond between us, it also highlighted our love for travel.

High points:

  • Nuwara Eliya is a perfect place to go for couples. The weather and the scenery added an unforgettable charm to our romantic vacation in Sri Lanka.
  • We simply loved the beach-town vibe in Kalutara. It was an ideal place for us to relax and unwind.

Low point:

  • For a short four-day romantic vacation in Sri Lanka, there was too much of travel involved. We would’ve liked to spend more time in places like Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara and less time in a cab transferring from one place to another

Even you can make the special moments in your unforgettable. Book your Sri Lanka tour package and celebrate life in style!

Experiencing The Thrill Of A Spontaneous Weekend Trip To Ranikhet With Friends

Aanchal loves spontaneity, and her weekend trip to Ranikhet with friends was just about that. Read about their sojourns as they explore the virgin beauty of the Kumaon Hills with a group of travelers that share the same passion and enthusiasm for discovering new places.

While engrossed in the mundane work schedule, a window of opportunity opened up for a short weekend vacation. In no time, I called my friends, convinced them of the same and started looking for a possible destination to visit.

As the sun was scorching back then, we were definitely in the mood for some cool place in the hills.

“I was excited that finally, I got an opportunity to spend a vacation with my friends. But that wasn’t all, I had more reasons to justify why this vacation was perfect for me!”

  • Being an IT professional, planning a large number of leaves in advance is pretty tough. A spontaneous weekend trip like this suits my schedule perfectly.
  • Going on a weekend trip to Ranikhet with TravelTriangle is cost-effective. The costing for going on a trip by ourselves, for the 3 of us, was turning out to be expensive.
  • The headache of planning was completely on TravelTriangle and I trusted their experience in successfully coordinating thousands of trips.
  • Every time we could just pick a different location in the hills to visit on a weekend, meet new people and make great travel buddies.

I was pretty excited going on this trip as this was my second trip with TravelTriangle. The first one was last year to Kasol. Therefore, I knew what to expect and how beautifully trips managed by TravelTriangle turn out to be.

We got on the bus from Akshardham at 10 pm where everyone (all 24 of us) of our group was assembled.

Day 1: Exploring The Queen’s Meadows

After a fun-filled overnight bus journey, we reached Ranikhet at 7 am. Upon our arrival, we had breakfast and checked into our tents. Post lunch, we went out and began with our sightseeing in Ranikhet. In our short excursion, we went to Jhula Devi Temple and Golf Garden. As Ranikhet is a small town and there’s not much to do but admire natural beauty, I would have rather stayed at camp. That way I could’ve done more activities and talk to other travelers in our group.

However, in a few hours, we were back at the campsite where our evening started with a nice cup of tea, snacks, and bonfire. As the night went on, we got mingle with other people in our group, get to know about their lives, have dinner and late night musing with my best friends.

Day 2: Rejuvenating In Serene Nainital

The next day, we had breakfast and checked out of our camp at 9 am. On our way back to Delhi, we stopped in Nainital for a few hours.

The time spent in Nainital was very relaxing and rejuvenating. Firstly, we sat for a while near the Naini Lake to enjoy the gorgeous scenery all around us, and then finally, we did some street shopping at Mall Road. At that moment I wished I had a day extra in this serene lake town. We departed from Nainital at 4 pm and carried on our journey back to Delhi.

A Short Trip Exploring Best Places In And Near Jim Corbett

There were many things I liked about this weekend trip to Ranikhet, but none more so than smoothly such a big group was managed, and how easily everyone got comfortable around strangers.

I guess it probably was our shared love and enthusiasm for travel that compelled us to look beyond our own preferences and likings in order to enjoy the refreshing experience of Ranikhet and Nainital.

High points:

  • Coordinators did a good job of managing the entire group of 24 people and keeping them entertained.
  • We had an amazing stay at the Bay Berry campsite. All of the facilities were perfectly arranged for our weekend trip.

Low point:

  • The bus selected for our journey could’ve been better as the seats weren’t very comfortable.
  • Would have liked a 2 nights/ 3 days trip where in we could have stay for a night in Nainital as well.

These Are The Best Places To Visit In Kumaon For A Perfect Family Holiday !

As the temperatures in May started to climb into the 40s, the voice in my head calling for a trip to a cool hill station became louder and louder. Luckily, I had to look no further than the Kumaon Hills in Uttarakhand as my family and I enjoyed a 6 nights 7 days vacation exploring scenic places to visit in Kumaon that were blessed with amazing weather conditions.

This summer, my husband and I thought of exploring a different side of Uttarakhand. Since we have traveled to Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Rishikesh plenty of times in the past, there were a lot of unseen places to visit in Kumaon region that we could go to. We thought it would be a nice idea, to begin with lesser traveled places in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand like Bhimtal, Binsar, Kausani etc.

5 Reasons You Should Take Another Trip To Nainital NOW!

Details of our trip to Uttarakhand

While searching for places to visit in Kumaon, I bumped into a few handy blogs written on the TravelTriangle website. On that page itself, I got to know that they could help us book an Uttarakhand package as well. I filled up a small form, and soon enough a TravelTriangle representative reached out to me and understood my requirement for the vacation.

After receiving quotes from multiple agents, I chose the package given to me by ‘Spotnic Private Limited’ travel agency. The package was cost effective and covered most of the places we wanted to see.

Trip Duration: 6 nights 7 days

Trip Cost: INR 41,000

Places Visited: Bhimtal, Nainital, Ranikhet, Kausani, Binsar, and Almora

Inclusions: Transfers, accommodation, meals, sightseeing, wifi services, and tax

Exclusions: Train tickets, lunch, adventure activities, and additional expenses

For our trip, I had lined up some gorgeous hill stations in Uttarakhand. Hill stations that were especially perfect for families with kids. The places we covered weren’t too taxing to the body, weren’t too crowded, and the weather was perfect to head out in the open and explore.

Our Journey began From Kathgodam

We began our trip by taking a train from New Delhi and arriving in Kathgodam at noon. From there, our designated cab driver was present to receive and take us to Bhimtal. A few hours later, we reached Hotel Royal Rosette and checked into our room. The hotel was kind of close to the lake, so in the evening we went to Bhimtal Lake for some horse-riding and boating.

An incredible bird’s eye view of Bhimtal

The next morning, we went back to Bhimtal Lake and took part in a few adventure activities like zorbing, and paragliding. I must add, that my son was very brave during the paragliding session and not for one second did he not enjoy gliding hundreds of feet over the mountains

Later in the day, we proceeded for sightseeing in Nainital. We couldn’t cover many places as the driver wasn’t cooperating at all. Since Kathgodam, he was giving us a hard time by not even being 1% flexible with the itinerary given to him. We requested TravelTriangle to change our driver and they duly obliged.

For the remainder of our time in Nainital, we did boating in Naini Lake, and a little bit of shopping at Mall Road.

Here’s Everything You Need To Know About How To Spend 3 Days in Kausani

Our amazing journey to the queen’s meadows!

The next day, we checked out from Bhimtal and traveled to Ranikhet with a different driver. From this point onwards, we had no qualms with the driver, and the trip went by very smoothly. The new driver was very polite, interactive, and stopped the car for as many times as we asked him to. The drive to Ranikhet was filled with picturesque mountains that showcased beautiful places to visit in Kumaon.

In the afternoon, we checked into The Xanadu Resort, Ranikhet and rested for a few hours. We didn’t feel the need to do much in Ranikhet since the panoramic view we got from our resort was incredible.

Kausani: A scenic hill station with soothing vibes

After we checked out from Ranikhet, we started our journey to Kausani. We took our own sweet time to reach Kausani as there were a lot of activities to do in between.

First up, we stopped midway to do some trekking and reach a point from where we got a magnificent view of the Kumaon hills. And finally, we stopped at a small stream to click some pictures and breathe in the fresh air for a while. We arrived in Kausani at night and checked in Nature’s Valley Resort. We barely had time that evening to do anything but have food and get a good night’s sleep.

The next day was packed with sightseeing in Kausani. From lush green tea gardens, to intricate shawl making factory, and then finally the monumental Anashakti ashram- a place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed for a few months.

41 Amazing Hill Stations In Uttarakhand For An Adventurous Escapade In 2022

Hidden from the crowd in Binsar

We checked out from Nature’s Valley Resort and proceeded to Almora, our final stop on the list of places to visit in Kumaon. On the way to Almora, we stopped by at some peach orchids. Sweet and delicious didn’t even come close to describing those fruits we tasted at those farms. We bought some of that delicious fruit to take back home and carried on with our journey.

We checked into Mohan’s Binsar Retreat, a lovely resort located 20 kms from Almora in a small village called Binsar. Out of all the places we stayed, we enjoyed our stay in Binsar the most. The food was amazing, the resort location was perfect and the owner of the retreat was very courteous.

While visiting Almora, the advantage of staying in Binsar was that the place was away from the town and was surrounded by peaceful temples and monasteries. In fact, we could’ve have spent more than a day going to all these shrines that add on to an ever-growing list of interesting places to visit in Kumaon hills.

The next morning we packed our bags and began our journey back to New Delhi. Our awesome vacation was finally nearing its end, with many stories and happy memories. The driver dropped us off at Kathgodam, from where we had an afternoon train to Delhi.

Red Roof Church and Pamplemousse at North Island

We visited a tiny fishing village by the name ‘Cap Malheureux’ on the day of our North Island tour. Its bright colors, Victorian architecture, and peaceful surroundings made it probably the most visited church in Mauritius.

Therefore, we parted from the group, and took a public bus to witness the Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses. Famous for its enormous lily flower pond, the garden was a lovely retreat to an otherwise dull day.

Maconde Rock & Gris Gris Beach

For the fifth and sixth day of our romantic trip to Mauritius, we rented a self-drive car to explore the landscape of this scenic country. Driving in Mauritius was a pleasure. On one side there were spectacular mountains painted a lush green, and on the other hand the beautiful coastline with bright blue waters and stunning beaches.

We arrived at the hairpin bend on the highway at Baie du Cap and climbed the stairs to Maconde rock. At the top, we enjoyed a fabulous view of the ocean waves smashing against the rocks and cars maneuvering the scenic hairpin bend.

Finally, we arrived at the southernmost point in Mauritius- Gris Gris. A sturdy sea cliff that gave the impression that it was crying once the ocean waves smashed against the cliff and the water poured down its face. We also spent a few hours at the Gris Gris beach which was only a five-minute walk from the sea cliff.

An Adventurous 7 Day Honeymoon Trip To Mauritius

Tasting Dholl Puri and visiting Flic-en-Flac

Not only did we unearth beautiful places to visit in Mauritius, but we also ate some delicious local cuisine that we had never heard of. Dholl Puri, inspired by the Indian dish Aloo Puri, was a sumptuous delicacy we saw all over Mauritius. With so many Indians in Mauritius, it wasn’t a surprise that one of our most famous dishes made its way into the Mauritian staple diet.

In the afternoon, we visited the alluring Flic-en-Flac beach. As it was the penultimate day of our Mauritius tour package, my husband and I thought of unwinding at this pristine location. We ate a light lunch, saw the sunset, and admired the longest and most scenic white sand beach in Mauritius.

A scuba diving adventure on the final day

As with most good things in life, we saved the best for the last. On the final morning, we got up early to go for a scuba diving session at TICABO Diving Center. Their amazing expertise and know-how of scuba diving convinced us of the safety and thrilling experience we were looking for in our first dive.

Swimming beneath the surface with all kinds of fishes was a magical experience. The calm surroundings and the constant blue took our minds to a completely different planet altogether.

A 7 Day Magical Honeymoon In Mauritius

Our Mauritius tour package was a big hit because we explored the island, the only way we knew how. We followed our heart, got immersed into the culture, and wherever possible traveled that extra mile to discover something truly memorable and incredible. The places we visited were special, but the invaluable part was the time spent in each other’s company.

High points:

  • The beauty of Ile Aux Cerfs is unparalleled. It is a must-visit place.
  • Hiring a self-driven car and exploring Mauritius was amazing.
  • Scuba-diving in the clear blue waters of Mauritius was incredible.

Low points:

  • The resort booked for us was labeled as a four-star resort, but in reality, it wasn’t up to the mark in terms of hospitality and services offered.
  • North Island tour wasn’t an attractive sightseeing place, and it can be skipped altogether.

Tips for travelers:

  • After scuba diving, there should be a gap of a minimum 12 hours before you board a flight.
  • Book water sports at Ile Aux Cerfs itself to get a bargain on water activities.
  • Quad biking in Casela Nature Park wasn’t worth it because the ATV track was pretty boring and lacked the thrills of a bumpy ride one would expect in such activities.
  • Carry GoPro or any other action camera if you are going for adventure activities in Mauritius.

Honeymoon In Bali: A Fine Blend Of Nature, Love, & Adventure

We took an overnight flight from Mumbai and arrived in Bali at 1 pm. After clearing customs, we met the driver assigned to us, who drove us to the Grand Aston Bali Beach Resort for our check in. Our accommodation was situated right next to Kuta beach with beautiful sea-view from the resort. Along with that, there were a lot of in-house activities like gym, swimming pool, snooker, and table tennis to keep the guests happy.

In the evening, we chose to relax at the resort, enjoy the rainy weather, and have dinner to end a tiring day of travel and transit.

The next morning, we began our sightseeing tour by traveling to Lovina. En route, we stopped in Ubud art market for some shopping. We reached the beautiful Lovina Beach and relaxed over there for a few hours.

Post lunch, we visited the Banjar village hot spring and Git Git waterfall. The constant drizzle on the second day of our honeymoon trip to Bali made us enjoy the waterfall even more. Finally, before heading back to the resort, we stopped by at the Bedugul Temple at 6 pm and witnessed the mesmerizing evening prayers.

It was an incredible day, as we traveled from south to north Bali seeing the landscape change from beaches to misty mountains. A true testament to the diverse landscape in Bali.

After breakfast, we were taken by the driver for a session of river rafting in the Ayung river. We navigated through the fierce rapids and gushing waters to enjoy an incredible thrill ride.

Later on, we traveled to the southernmost point of Bali- Uluwatu temple. Over there, we saw a spiritually charged tribal dance performance, that reminded us of the depth of devotion people carry in their hearts for the almighty. After the performance finished, we proceeded back to our resort for the evening.

Every night, we used to go for dinner to an Indian restaurant called Queens of India. The ‘ kali dal’ dish I had over there, was better than what I am used to having back in Mumbai.

Enjoying The Best Things To Do On A Weekend Trip To Kasol With Friends, The Photographer Way!

Traveling for me, is a way of life. That is how I meet new people, enjoy new experience, explore a new corner of the world, make friends on the go, and try to stay and feel alive. Traveling gives me a certain kind of freedom to live my life to the fullest on each trip, and that is what I experienced on my fun-filled weekend trip to Kasol with friends.

While traveling is what I love, photography is something I enjoy naturally and is my one and only passion. These are the two things that keep me going amidst the hectic work culture of Gurgaon. Having said that, the hustle and bustle of Gurgaon needs no introduction, for Indians at least. This is why I make sure that I take regular breaks from work, and escape to some place new.

Our Weekend Trip Itinerary

About Our Trip

Nature’s photography is not only the most favorite thing which is always on my mind, but it is the only way I capture some of the best moments in life. Dead Sea, Petra & The Sands Of Time: Our Family Trip To Jordan Was Larger Than Life!

Our family trip to Jordan was a surreal experience. It was a dream come true for me since I had always wanted to visit it ever since my geography and history classes. A big fan of the country, I had always been fascinated by its spectacular culture, sightseeing, natural marvels, and the “era gone by” feel that it invoked. From biblical stories to real life ones, Jordan was one destination that had always been on my bucket list. And this time, it finally got ticked!

I went on this Jordan family holiday with my wife, brother in law, and father in law. And although initially planning for Greece, we soon switched over to Jordan when we realized we all preferred an Arabian adventure than a Greek story.

8 Best Places To See In Jordan That You Simply Can’t Miss [Infographic]

So as soon as our decision was final, I began searching for a suitable Jordan family package on the internet and that is when a Facebook ad of TravelTriangle caught my eye. Since they offered a customized package, I filled in a few details and waited for them to contact me. Soon, a travel representative from the company called me and forwarded my requirements to their agent on board for quotes and itineraries.

After receiving the quotes from their agent “HT Travel”, I compared them to a few other websites and found them to be good value for money. Without a further delay, I booked my package and was now sorted regarding my trip planning.

And just to give you an idea about what all was included and what was not, here are the package details for my family trip to Jordan:

  • Cost: 2600 dollars or INR 1,71,756 (4 adults)
  • Duration: 5 Nights 6 Days
  • Inclusions: Transfers, hotels, meals, and sightseeing
  • Exclusions: Flights (we booked them on our own), other personal expenses that were not part of the package.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival and sightseeing in Amman followed by check in
  • Day 2: Sightseeing in Jerash
  • Day 3: Arrival and check in in Wadi Rum followed by sightseeing in Madaba
  • Day 4: Sightseeing in Petra followed by check in at the hotel in Dead Sea area
  • Day 5: Full day at the Dead Sea area and resort
  • Day 6: Check out and proceed to the airport for flight back to India

Disclaimer: About the food in Jordan

The food in Jordan is quite nice and consists of meat along with fresh vegetables, beans, and pulses among other ingredients. Yes, it is meat biased but vegetarians can choose from plenty of vegetable based salads, dips, falafel, and flat bread to keep themselves well fed. We, in particular, had no problem with the food and in fact enjoyed it quite a lot.

And now, our trip experience. Here you go!

We took a flight from Delhi at 4 am in the morning and after approximately 8 hours, landed in Amman. After our formalities at the airport, we were greeted by our travel guide cum driver who as per our request straight away took us for sightseeing in Amman city’s downtown part. The places we visited in Amman included:

Citadel in Amman

The Citadel

This historic site sits on top of a hill and the most amazing attractions here include The Temple of Hercules and Umayyad Palace which we really enjoyed visiting.

Jordan Archaeological Museum

This was an excellent experience where we saw a lot of artifacts. Some of them dated to prehistoric time while others to the more recent 15th century. Overall, this was a really interesting experience.

Jordan Folklore Museum

Another interesting destination, we saw a lot of preserved costumes, cultural artifacts, handicrafts, and musical instruments.

Roman Theater

This 6000 seat theater dates back to 2nd century when the city was known as Philadelphia and is truly a sight to behold.

Jerash – an ancient city like none other!

We were to visit Jerash today, an ancient Roman city that is known for its architectural marvels and cityscape. So after a fine breakfast at the hotel, we proceeded for the full day sightseeing excursion.

Jerash was all Roman in its personality. The paved streets, huge public squares, plazas, fountains, city walls, and soaring hill top temples were a treat to the senses – and witnessing them all at one place, we couldn’t help but relive the glorious times of the past.

Next up, we proceeded towards the north to see the famous Ajloun Castle (Qal’at Ar-Rabad) which is also an important historical and ecological site. This castle, built in 1184 AD by Saladi’s general was constructed to control the iron mines of Ajloun and hinder the progress of the Crusaders by dominating the three routes leading to Jordan (what a strategy!).

This marked the last of our sightseeing in Jerash post which we returned to our hotel for we were to change city and hotel the next day.

Madaba, Mount Nebo, and Wadi Rum – the sands of time

Madaba to Wadi Rum route
Wadi Rum desert

We left for Wadi Rum today and on our way covered the ancient city of Madaba. This city is famous for its mosaic art, specifically the 6th-century mosaic map of Jerusalem and witnessing it was truly marvelous. We also visited the St. George’s Church and it was followed by Mount Nebo where the Memorial Church Of Moses lay. From here, we could also see the neighboring city of Jerusalem which was truly fascinating and a sight to behold.

Moving on, we continued for Wadi Rum via the highway. The ride was very scenic and we loved clicking pictures on the way.

We reached Wadi Rum late in the evening and checked into the Sun City Camp where we were scheduled to stay at a Martian like camp called “Freedomes”. Looking at the whole dome shaped camp and the red sand surrounding, we couldn’t help but imagine ourselves staying at Mars! (at least for the shortest of time!).

First-Timer’s Guide To Jordan: History, Attractions, Cuisine, Tips

The night spent here was very beautiful and graced by a starry sky, which was actually the whole point of the tented accommodation. We liked how everything was managed perfectly at this camp and how each tent had a small balcony attached to it for lazing around.

Petra – one destination that cannot be described in words (but I tried anyway!)

Petra entrance
Petra Jordan

Today was the big day! We were to finally visit our most awaited attraction in Jordan, the rock carved city of Petra and frankly, were too excited for it!

We checked out of the camp post a delicious breakfast and then proceeded towards Petra in a cab. The ancient city began through a narrow lane but ended up larger than life once we had crossed its entrance.

“They say, it takes two days to thoroughly explore the city of Petra but since we were on a time constraint, we ended up completing almost 50% of it in five to six hours. Pretty good, right?”

The Treasury Petra Jordan

There were so many places to see here and we loved every bit of what we encountered. From the rock cut tombs to colonnaded streets to temples, altars, and most importantly, The Treasury – everything was magnificent and oh so pink!

Next up was the Dead Sea where we were to check in to our new resort “Movenpick Dead Sea Spa and Resort”.

“As we proceeded from Petra to Jordan, the color of the rocks started changing and suddenly everything felt so surreal. The highway, surrounded by mountains on either side, added to the whole charm, and made our ride, extremely picturesque”.

After checking into our excellent resort, we relaxed for a while before calling it a day.

15 Best Hotels And Resorts In Jordan For Every Type Of Traveler

This was a leisure day for us and it was spent lazying around, swimming in the Dead Sea, and exploring the nearby area and markets.

We did not have to go out of the resort to swim in the Dead Sea for our resort had its own private access to it. We could swim as many times here till 6 pm which is the time limit set by the government.

6 Most Popular Jordan Tours For A Trip To Middle East’s Most Easy Going Places

“No matter how much we tried, we just couldn’t go down in the sea. It was truly amazing!”

Tip: It is recommended not to stay in the Dead Sea for more than 15 minutes for it can harm you. On the other hand, the salty and mineral rich water of the sea is also beneficial and contains healing properties. Practice moderation. If you want to go back for a swim again, take a shower and then go.

The Dead Sea had some amazing views to offer and Jerusalem from here appeared so close! Later in the afternoon, we ventured out on our own and visited a few markets in the vicinity. There were many restaurants here and we chose the one which offered an even better view of the sea than our resort.

Goodbye Jordan – till we see you again!

This was our final day in Jordan and after we had checked out of the resort, we were transferred to the airport for our flight back to India.

Our family trip to Jordan, or should I say Arabian adventure, had come to an end.

Final thoughts

Jordan exceeded our expectations in so many ways. From its friendly people to hospitality, to its rich landscape, and sightseeing places – everything was a treat to the senses. My family and I had a such a good time exploring this wonderful country that for a while, we truly got lost in its old world charm. Our Arabian adventure was such a delight that we would surely love to return some day, relive our wonderful memories, and fall in love with this paradise all over again!

My essential tips for all those traveling to Jordan:

  • I recommend everyone to book their cabs in advance since hiring one on your own there can be quite expensive.
  • Madaba is one destination that offers an average sightseeing experience and is a skippable option.
  • The difference between a “Freedome” tent and a normal one is about 100=150 dollars and if you’re on a budget, then you can go for a normal one for it too offers a balcony and a similar experience.
  • Glamping or luxury camping in Wadi Rum is a must. I recommend Sun City Camps for this experience.
  • One should always maintain a balance between clicking pictures and enjoying the sightseeing for there are some moments which really need to be felt. Don’t waste too much time clicking photos and missing out on precious sightseeing moments.
  • Movenpick was a perfect resort option for us since it was situated on the Dead Sea Road and had private access to it. I recommend you to pick the same or a similar resort like JW Marriott.

In the end, I would like to thank TravelTriangle for organizing a wonderful family trip to Jordan for us and would recommend all to check out their value for money Jordan tour packages. So, if you too want to enjoy a hassle free holiday experience, this is it!
