We were always drawn to the aquatic world and a rendezvous with marine life was what drove us into the heart of the Maldives. So we decided to plan a budget honeymoon in Maldives and make our wish come true.

We landed at Male International Airport from where our accommodation, Sun Island Resort was 107 Km away. People can opt for seaplane which we did which is a 30 min flight to Nalaguraidhoo Island. From this island, we had a speed boat which took us to Sun Island resort. After checking into our room and getting refreshed we headed out to explore the island. We ate some delicious fish and chips at the beach cafe and enjoyed DJ music in the evening. Following are the amazing things we did on our holiday.

We got up to a spectacular Beach sunrise view and had a wonderful satiating breakfast. We explored the water sport activities like SUP, jet Skiing, the sofa float and spotted baby sharks, stingrays and other marine life in the waters. We also registered for the crab race to be held in the evening where baby crabs selected by you were to compete in a race. Evening we played snooker, badminton, relaxed in the jacuzzi. Which prepared us for a fun evening for some live performances of belly dancing and fire show display along with a live band who brought about a romantic atmosphere. Alas, we did not win the crab race, but it was quite entertaining.

We relaxed along the shoreline after a heavy breakfast and signed up for fishing in the evening. We had expert instructors who taught us how to hold the fishing rods and insert the bait. Fishing in the middle of the ocean was fun and we were determined to catch some fish. We enjoyed waiting for the fish to bite into the bait. Finally, our patience was rewarded, and we caught the red snapper and few Blackfish (do not recollect the name). We were given the option to cook the catch from fishing. The fish was salted and grilled and given to us with fresh lime and we relished it along with the widespread of the buffet dinner.

It was a treat to witness the Stingray feeding in the morning. We explored the island a bit more and wandered across the beach where we could see some cranes flying across the waters, went swimming in the pool. We had signed up for the dolphin expedition and headed off in the evening taking the boat ride where we were offered refreshments while awaiting the dolphin sighting. We were amazed to spot 8 or more so dolphins swimming and gliding across the ocean with the backdrop of the sunset. We were so fascinated with the dolphin movements it was a treasured moment to watch them.

4. Scuba Diving

We shifted to the water bungalow which awed us with the beautiful view of the ocean. From the water bungalow, there is a provision where you can directly go for a swim in the lagoon. An exciting proposition was the booking of scuba diving. We were assigned an instructor who taught us breathing techniques underwater and signs language to signal our comfort level underwater. Being skeptical at first but the instructor who was an expert diver put us at ease. The scuba cylinder weighs like 5kgs which is a backload but when you enter the water it feels lightweight. we dive a few feet into the water which each level deeper we went our confidence grew. Finally, we were amidst the fish and the coral reefs inside the water, we clicked a few pictures here and it was a lifetime experience which is not describable in words but I tried nevertheless.

Next day we bid Adios to Sun Island Resort boarding the speed boat where the staff stood with placards waving goodbye to us. We returned by flight to Male and from there via Sri Lanka back to Mumbai taking with us beautiful memories which we will treasure for a lifetime.

They have Standard Beach Bungalows, Superior beach bungalows which are built on the beach ensuring the direct view of the shore and the sea. The Sunset Villas overlook the vast horizon of sunrise or sunset view. The Water Bungalows are built on stilts in the lagoon overlooking the entire sea in the midst of crystal clear water and the marine life accompanying it. Within the Island, they have Buggy or cycles which you can use to explore the place. Staff is very cooperative and around the Island, you will see the gardeners pruning the bushes, cleaners, buggies to take your luggage around, rooms are well kept staffed with required toiletries having well-maintained hygiene. Hurawalhi Island Resort Maldives is a lavish Adults only Island resort in Lhaviyani Atoll, which is a 45 minutes minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport (Male). Once we landed in Male we were greeted by our representative who then lead us to the seaplane. We didn’t face any hassle at all getting to the resort and the island executive took care of everything right from the airport transfers to the departure from Maldives. Kudos to the team for offering us a hiccup-free experience!

Soon after our arrival at Hurawalhi, our Island host Mr. Anif welcomed us and gave us an Island tour. He drove us to our Villa which overlooked the Indian Ocean, dreamy, isn’t it? The room had a soft fluffy king size bed, a couch, a coffee table, fresh fruits and snacks on the counter, a minibar and a bottle of Champagne as a complimentary gift for honeymoon at Hurawalhi Maldives.

Our vision was captivated by the clear blue sky and deep blue ocean with our room being at the center of both. Overlooking a private white sand beach and our very own wooden shack, our villas was simply beautiful. When it comes to pricing, it is on the higher side, but every moment you spend at the resort is worth every penny.

The day when we arrived at the resort, we went for Sunset Dolphin Safari, which was so exciting! They served mocktails on the speedboat and we saw the dolphins skip away into the sunset. We also took Scuba Diving classes and for a first time scuba diver, the site was truly mesmerizing and unforgettable. The trainers are very well experienced and made us feel safe. The resort has a medical center too, so you shouldn’t worry. The resort provided us with a snorkeling kit, which we could use anytime as per our convenience. We went for the Turtle Tour and jumped into mid ocean with our snorkeling kit. I simply do not have words to describe just how much fun it was, you have to be there to know. We ate most of our breakfast at Canelli, Hurawalhi’s main restaurant, which offers an impressive buffet set up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We also had access to the 24/7 open Coco Bar with a view of infinity pool as part of out all-inclusive Hurawalhi package.

At Canelli you can enjoy Maldivian, Continental and Mexiacan Buffet along with an array of desserts, which tasted divine. Kashibooo is an Asian themed restaurant, which offered food that tickled your taste buds with different spices and flavors. Dining at Hurawalhi Island Resort underwater restaurant, 5.8 was a unique experience and one that drew us to choose Hurawalhi. To have a delicious meal with fish swimming around you was simply awesome. Underwater restaurant in Hurawalhi Maldives price ranges from INR 16,185 – INR 71,932, but it is surely worth the cost.

We spent most of the time relaxing in the Coco-bar and savoring the wide range of cocktails from the menu. The 24/7 Bar is a boon when you know how to handle your drink. Every night at Coco-bar we had cultural programs by the local artists that kept us thoroughly entertained post our dinner. The chef’s, bartenders and the service executives were very extremely hospitable making the experience all the more enjoyable.

It was the season of rainfall in Maldives. We experienced light rainfall on the island but as the islands are so low-lying, rain clouds blow over very quickly so the rain was only short lived. But the weather became wonderful after rain. We stayed at the smallest of Adaaran chain that is the Adaaran Club Rannalhi. The property was breathtaking. The club is located in south Male which is known for its rare and preserved water wildlife. We were lucky to have spotted Manta ray and shark too during our stay. We stayed 1 night at the water villa and 3 nights in the beach bungalow. With an over the water villa, you can jump right into the waters and snorkel or swim. With a private deck, it’s perfect for sunbathing, swimming and pure relaxation. Our Maldives travel experience was totally enhanced.

With so much to explore and experience, we decided to begin our holiday with pampering our body and mind with a couple of massage. The luxurious spa meet the standards of the lavish resort. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, this seafront facing spa lets you dive in a deeper bliss. The Balinese spa experience reflects the peacefulness and tranquility of the island. The spa used natural oils from tropical plants which incorporates the elements of the island. We experienced an overwhelming relief after the massage and were all set to indulge in the various adventures of the island. We also enjoyed a full moon party at the resort in the evening.

Shark adventure is one of the major highlights that made our Maldives honeymoon experience even better. After waking up early, we reached the site to expereince snorkeling in Maldives. It was an incredible site to see the whale shark swimming beside us under the water. We also spotted many other underwater species like leopard sharks and blacktip reef shark. We also went for jet skiing adventures on our trip. Altogether, it was a lovely expereince.

My husband likes to experiment a lot with his food, he left no stone unturned when it came to indulging in the local delicacies. The in-house restaurant included a mix of Indian and International food all lip smacking. One must try seafood in Maldives, which is a specialty on the island. Also, the deserts were to die for.

  • Plan according to the weather. We went in the wet season so the deals we got were pretty cheap compared to the deals in the dry season.

We were warmly welcomed at one of the world’s most exclusive resorts. The resort’s crew is very welcoming and friendly. The rooms at the resort were very clean and comfortable and it was very close to the blue ocean. The food at the resort was exceptional and healthy and hygienic meals were served. We were lucky to have arrived on the day when a small event was organized at the resort and we also savored complimentary alcohol and snacks that evening. On one of the evenings, a music event was also organized at the resort were a music band performed and it was really good. The event was followed by a gala dinner at the resort.

As we went deeper into the water, we were able to spot manta rays, sharks and turtles. Getting a closer look at the wonders of the sea, it was a truly delightful experience for us to indulge in.

The Maldives is known for a variety of water activities and this was one of the major reasons why my wife wanted a vacation on the islands. After a beautiful scuba diving experience, it was time for some thrilling water sports. We planned to go for parasailing but due to the unavailability of boats, we were not able to execute our plan. So instead, we decided to indulge in a jet ski experience. The cool waters touching our skin, the winds blowing, and the serene picturesque surroundings made for a memorable jet ski experience. Later we also headed for a water-bike ride which gave us all the adrenaline rush.

My Solo Honeymoon Trip To Sri Lanka And Maldives

Who knew that just like the popular Bollywood flick ‘Queen’, even I would go on my honeymoon alone. The only difference, that I accepted it all quite sportingly. Upon reaching the Colombo Airport, we drove for four and a half hours to reach our hotel in Kandy. After relaxing for a while, we decided to explore the city. Next morning, we left for Hatton and reached around 5:30 in the evening. The aim was to visit the Adam’s Peak. So, we took a bus from there to Sri Pada and then started our journey for Adam’s Peak at around 1 in the morning. Since it was a full moon night, it was a bit crowded, so we decided to go way up to the peak. Reaching the top and witnessing the beauty of the sunrise was a much needed heart-warming experience.

The next morning was reserved for a snorkelling trip. It was a hell lot of adventure and fun. Being a non-swimmer, it was kind of tough and altogether a very different experience for me. The next day, I took a private island tour. The Fihalhohi Island Resort was again a super experience for me. I made some new friends and also met a couple from Spain. We went out for lunch together and then did snorkelling again. By the evening, I was way too tired, so I headed back to the hotel.

I woke up early in the morning, and went out to watch the sunrise. It’s beautiful how a rising sun can bring in so much of hope and positivity. Just sitting there and watching it was more than soul-satisfying.


After that, I headed back to my hotel, packed my luggage, and left for the airport in the noon.

High Points Of The Trip

  • Soothing my eyes by witnessing the gorgeous sunrise at Adam’s Peak was the first high point of my trip. I had never seen such kind of beauty in my entire life.

We took our flight from Delhi and it was a connecting one. From Delhi we reached Trivandrum and from there we proceeded to Male, where we took another flight to our resort in Maldives, The Sun Island Resort.

This was a beautiful property on a private island and we were astounded by how large it was. We were given welcome drinks upon our arrival and post a quick check into the Beach Bungalow, we settled in. We were quite happy that our room was well decorated and that it also had a complimentary cake and a fruit basket for us.

Next up was exploring the resort and we immediately began that after we rested for a while. It is worth noting that this resort is huge and has so many beaches and yes, we did get an option to to rent a cycle but we chose not to since we wanted to walk and stop wherever we wanted to.

The restaurant for lunch was 5-7 minutes away from our bungalow and since we had opted for a full-board package, all of our meals were included. Later, after chilling at the beach (this time a different one), we had our dinner and called it a night. So far, everything was pretty amazing and I had a feeling, it was only going to get better (and I was correct!).

Day 3: The Water Villa experience

Today, in the afternoon, we were shifted to the water villa and quite frankly, it was the best place to stay. Our villa was over water and had access to go directly into the water from the room to swim and snorkel. It was raining in the afternoon and soon my wife and I went for a romantic walk in the rain and it was one of the best experiences ever.

This was followed by an amazing spa session, discount vouchers of which were already included our package and if there was one word to describe it, I would choose heavenly.

Later in the night, there was a candle light romantic dinner arranged for us on the beach and we couldn’t have asked for more. It was one of those experiences that we would always cherish and let’s just leave it to that.

Honeymoon In Maldives: Good Times At Centara Ras Fushi

Today, since it was mostly raining and also because we were tanned a lot, my wife and I decided to stay in our water villa only. And yes, in the evening when we did venture out, we were amazinfe by the Christmas and New Year festive spirit all around. Everything was beautifully decorated and we truly loved the vibe and excitement in the resort today.

Day 5: Till we meet again, Maldives!

This was the last day of our honeymoon in Maldives and to be honest, we did not want to leave at all but it was time for us to go so we couldn’t help it. Finally, after one last breakfast, we checked out of the resort and headed back to the airport for our flight back to India.

Our 5 day honeymoon in Maldives was a heavenly experience. It was the most relaxing holiday we had ever had and if time permits, we would definitely want to return to this paradisaical country for another romantic vacation. It was the best of rejuvenation, romance, and luxury, and we couldn’t have asked for more.
